Job Summary
The IT Technician position at Lea County Electric Cooperative requires a highly skilled individual to ensure the stability and integrity of the organization's IT assets. This includes planning, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing all network hardware, software, telephony equipment, and communication links.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide network administration of all workstations and Windows servers, including setup of new user accounts and permission settings for new and current users.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot user problems and computer networks to ensure that network is available to end users.
- Develop effective security strategies for software systems, networks, and hardware.
- Research and implement best ways to secure company-wide IT infrastructure.
- Monitor for external intrusions and attacks.
- Manage and implement system security to ensure data integrity and protection using routers, firewalls, virus protection, access control, and intrusion detection systems.
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks.
- Install and maintain software, including operating systems, databases, and all applications utilized by the cooperative.
- Support and maintain telecommunications equipment, including programming, diagnosing, and upgrading telephone systems, voicemail, and PBX systems.
- Recommend and purchase necessary personal computer, peripheral, software, and supplies as assigned.
- Provide problem reporting, diagnosis, and resolution of all hardware, software, and networking problems supported by the IT/Communications department.
- Provide timely and accurate technical support by troubleshooting and correcting technical problems encountered by both local and remote end-users.
- Advise and train end users in the use of existing technology while demonstrating a supportive and helpful attitude.
- Create and maintain backup and system audit procedures for all servers and workstations.
- Consult with end users and propose solutions and alternatives to meet their business needs.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of all licensed and un-licensed microwave radio and Land Mobile Radio (LMR) equipment.
- Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
- Write scripts and programs to ensure effective system automation.
- Assist in the design implementation action of disaster recovery plan.
- Assist in the annual budget process for network hardware and software.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
