Description

Leader Dogs for the Blind, based in Rochester Hills, Michigan, has been making people unstoppable for 80 years, empowering people who are blind or visually impaired with lifelong skills for safe and independent daily travel. We are looking for a Food Service Aide to join our team!

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager of Residential and Food Services, this position is responsible for serving meals to our clients and guests, assisting with food preparation, assisting with events, handling special dietary issues and general cleanliness and maintenance of the kitchen and cafeteria area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides quality customer service while serving meals to our clients in class.
  • Provides dietary support for clients with special dietary needs or restrictions.
  • Maintains food safety regulations and standards.
  • Consults daily with cooks on duty to ensure adequate support.
  • Routinely maintains food service areas.
  • Provides service support as needed to the kitchen area such as assisting cooks with meal service, putting away stock, dish washing, coffee stations, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or equivalent required.  A minimum of one year of food service experience required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must have experience working in food service industry.

  • Must be proficient in latest version of Microsoft Office products.

  • Must possess sound business judgment, exercise professional conduct, understand and follow business ethics and standards, and maintain a high level of confidentiality in all duties.

  • Must be willing to perform general public relations duties on behalf of Leader Dog (answer general questions, be a professional and courteous representative of Leader Dog, etc.).

  • Must possess strong interpersonal and customer service skills and be able to interact with people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Must have familiarity with use, cleaning and proper maintenance of food service equipment.

  • Must be able to work with dogs and interact with blind and visually impaired students with courtesy and professionalism.

  • Must have the ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines; must have the ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

  • Must possess strong communication, organizational skills, and have acuity with detail.

  • May be required to have a valid driver’s license with no restrictions and the ability to travel independently as requested.

  • Must be able to establish and maintain professional, productive and courteous interactions with employees that promote positive teamwork, as well as with volunteers, donors, clients and all constituents of Leader Dog.  This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, crouch, kneel and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently is required to climb or balance.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, use the phone.  May be required to drive. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
