CLIENT PARTNER PROFILE & VALUE PROPOSITION: Leapros has been engaged by a manufacturing company in Rockford, IL that provides high-quality, precision machining CNC solutions to fill a machining lead position. POSITION TITLE: Machining Lead POSITION SUMMARY: The CNC Machining Lead will operate CNC machines and use existing programming to produce tools & parts to dimensional requirements, as well as lead and train a small team of machinists. The ideal candidate will possess 5+ years of CNC operating experience (5-axis), expertise with CNC programming, preferably with Mastercam software, as well as some estimating experience. RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: Operate a 5-axis CNC machine Run and develop CNC programs to produce tools & parts to dimensional/tolerance requirements Participate in brainstorming / problem solving with Engineering & Production personnel to solve related problems Assist with estimating projects Perform preventative maintenance to equipment Recommend new technologies for continuous improvement Follow Standard Industrial practices for working with composites & other materials Other responsibilities as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: 5+ years of previous CNC programming experience required, preferably with Mastercam software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, Esprit, or equivalent) with a strong grasp of 3D surfacing and multi-axis strategies Expert-level programming skills in both conversational and G-code-based systems (e.g., Fanuc, Mazak, Haas, Siemens, Okuma) Strong setup and operation skills on: o CNC Vertical Machining Centers (3- and 4-axis) o CNC Horizontal Machining Centers o CNC Multi-tasking Lathes with sub-spindle o Swiss machining experience is helpful Deep tooling knowledge including speeds/feeds, cutter selection, and high-efficiency machining techniques Firm grasp on fixture design/ build Proven ability to reduce cycle times and improve part quality through optimized setup and programming Able to read and interpret complex prints/ models, GD&T, and customer specs Confident inspecting parts to tight tolerances using CMMs, height gauges, micrometers, indicators, etc. Capable of mentoring junior machinists—both on the floor and at the programming desk Ability to put a training program together to foster the growth of junior employees. Troubleshooting wizard—quick to diagnose issues with setup, tooling, or machine behavior Understands lean manufacturing principles, quick-change setups, offline tool set-up/ measurement, and fixture design 5S experience is helpful Strong communication skills, able to work with shop floor personnel, engineering, QC, and production management Ready to take ownership of the machining department and drive accountability. Continuous improvement is essential Comfortable in a turnaround environment—resourceful, steady under pressure, and solution-oriented Incredible drive/ passion and an ability to constantly evolve PAY TRANSPARENCY: A reasonable estimate of the available {annual or hourly} pay scale for this position is: $90,000-$100,000 per year.
