We are seeking a Packaging Program Manager to lead and execute on packaging strategy – design and development of efficient, functional, and visually appealing packaging and point of purchase displays. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and project management skills along with knowledge of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes to create optimal packaging designs that protect and present products effectively.

Position Summary

Responsible for the entire packaging program – packaging updates, redesigns, testing, automation, changing global requirements, and strategic roadmap alignment. Coordinates responsibilities with sourcing, product management, marketing, sales, and logistics regarding packaging requirements and issues. Develops and maintains packaging specifications to ensure appropriate packaging methods are followed. Continually improve quality, delivery and cost/efficiency of packaging processes and materials to align to company objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead packaging development, collaborating with various teams to prototype, develop, and execute packaging that aligns with product and brand roadmaps.
  • Oversee ISTA performance testing and conduct in-use packaging evaluations to ensure effectiveness through the distribution chain.
  • Drive research in new packaging materials and technologies, staying updated on industry trends.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects to enhance quality, efficiency, and consumer satisfaction.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to execute packaging projects, including new products, updates, specialty packaging, and POP structures.
  • Manage packaging data, part numbers, and specification systems.
  • Develop and distribute packaging specifications and work instructions.
  • Perform quality inspections for first article items and develop quality specifications.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Sourcing on structural concepts, drawings, dielines, and vendor partnerships for packaging and displays.
  • Ensure packaging deliverables meet project timelines for product launches.
  • Communicate packaging designs, updates, and improvements with stakeholders.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or related technical discipline required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in packaging development, with Project Management skills encouraged.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and adherence to project timelines.
  • Effective communication and leadership for cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (ArtiosCAD preferred) and experience with TOPS or CAPE Pallet Pattern Software.
  • Basic skills in Illustrator and SolidWorks for packaging design.
  • Knowledge of international packaging regulations, sustainability, manufacturing, and tooling processes.
  • Familiarity with prototyping techniques and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience with ISTA and ASTM test protocols.
  • Background in Product Development, Product Management, and Project Management.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently sit; use hands to handle, grasp, or keyboard; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee occasionally stands or walks; climbs; stoops or crouches; and pushes/pulls. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Working Conditions/Physical Hazards

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office environment and is occasionally exposed to the production environment. The work area is well-lit and air-conditioned. All employees are expected to adhere to Company safety policies and wear personal protective equipment when exposed to work areas or performing tasks where required.
