What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Services Advocate (Part-time) position at Lebanon County?
Conducts client assessments (if permitted by law) in the office, at mental health institutions, or at Lebanon County Correctional Facility to determine competency to stand trial, mental health status, drug/alcohol dependency, legal insanity, etc. Provides individualized assessments and referrals for clients to community resources. Identifies resources to address client needs and collaborates with social service and treatment personnel to facilitate client admission and transportation, when necessary. Interviews clients, their loved ones, and other possible sources of life history information to develops reports with life history and bio-psycho-social information for submission to Court. Collects prior hospital and treatment records when necessary to assist with assessment/treatment planning. Prepares written records/memoranda on all clients evaluated, which are forwarded to and make a part of the legal file and/or discussed with the assigned attorney. Provides court testimony (if permitted by law) on behalf of clients when needed. Maintains well documented and dated files on all clients. Prepare social summaries and sentencing reports when necessary. Assists attorneys in the preparation of insanity defenses. Assist clients with securing funding for treatment when necessary. Must participate in staff meetings as scheduled. Other responsibilities as dictated by the needs of the client, but not limited to, investigation into criminal matters related to social services area. Establishes and develops relationships with community services and potential support, including, but not limited to, the local mental health authority, law enforcement, community supervision, the housing authority, adult education services, community leaders, and religious communities.
