Sr. Cost Accountant - Manufacturing

Summary:
We are seeking a Cost Accountant to join our team in a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for analyzing, monitoring, and reporting on production costs, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and collaborating across departments to support business decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cost accounting, experience with ERP systems, and an analytical mindset.
We are also open to candidates with a CPA background who have worked with manufacturing clients and possess a general understanding of cost accounting. In this case, experience in data management and analysis will be a key factor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze transactions within the ERP system to assess financial impact and identify discrepancies.
- Develop and maintain Item Masters, Bills of Materials (B.O.M.), and Production Routings to ensure accurate costing.
- Assess Work in Progress (WIP) to allocate labor and materials properly while proactively analyzing variances in material usage, purchase price, and freight costs.
- Execute month-end closing transactions and reconcile general ledger accounts related to inventory and costing.
- Monitor capital expenditures and assist with monthly depreciation entries.
- Support inventory management, including cost updates, weekly cycle counts, and leading the annual physical inventory process.
- Prepare and present cost analysis reports and financial reports to support decision-making.
- Ensure data integrity within the ERP system and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement improvements.
- Partner with Operations, Sales, and Supply Chain teams to analyze cost drivers and support cost-saving initiatives.
- Provide guidance to finance team members, assisting with inquiries related to cost accounting processes.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree required, bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
- 3-5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment with increasing responsibility.
- Expertise in ERP systems related to cost accounting functions and transaction flows.
- Experience with Microsoft Power BI, Power Query, or other data analytics tools preferred.
- Knowledge of SQL or M code is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles.
- Highly analytical with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact across all levels of the organization.
- Ethical and professional, capable of handling sensitive and confidential data.
- Flexibility to work overtime as needed during month-end close.
