What are the responsibilities and job description for the Church Musician position at Lee Chapel AME Church?
Job Purpose: To provide instrumental music (organ, piano, and or keyboard) support for worship in the church.
Job Duties:
· Play instrument(s) for worship services, funerals, special services when needed. Additional compensation is provided for these services.
· Provide musical accompaniment for weekly rehearsals, as needed.
· Coordinate rehearsals, performances, etc. with Choir Director.
· Be relational with the congregation by being available before and after services and practices.
· Assist in maintaining music library.
· Develop and maintain cooperation with the pastor, staff, and praise team in designing worship and music choices.
· Provide updates and reports on the sufficiency, condition, and maintenance regarding instruments, as needed.
· Ability to plan and lead musical programs, direct choir, and choose music that complements the service.
· Ability to motivate and teach the congregation and choirs.
· Provide music which is in keeping with the mission and vision of Lee Chapel.
Job specifications:
· Honor the Christian faith and worship experience.
· Be proficient as an accompanist on the organ, piano, and keyboard.
· Hold a minimum of an undergraduate degree.
· Have knowledge of church and Christian music, and church liturgy.
· Must be familiar with tradition church hymns along with an appreciation and ability to play contemporary gospel music.
· Previous experience within a local church/ministry.
· Ability to assist in creating, coordinating and leading a worship experience with a team.
· Maintain familiarity and competence with all styles of music appropriate with the mission and vision of Lee Chapel.
· Take initiative in seeking ways to enhance the music program.
· Have good organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
· Highly collaborative work style and adapts to change easily.
· Work independently as well as follow directions of supervisor.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Consistent and timely attendance at all Praise Team rehearsals.
- Consistent and timely attendance at all Lee Chapel services.
- Present and visible (in the sanctuary) at all services
Immediate Supervisor: Pastor
Final Amenability: Choir Director and Board Members in consultation with the Pastor.
Cooperative Relationships: This part-time employee will be considered Church professional staff and will work with and under the direction of the Pastor. This employee will work as a team member with the praise team all church staff.
Suggested hours: Part-time 3 hours per week, with flexibility to coordinate or manage activities or events at other times.
