Responsibilities:
- Diagnosis vehicle and heavy equipment malfunctions for the purposes of determining needed repairs and/or replacements
- Repairs vehicle and equipment systems/components to ensure the availability of vehicles and equipment in safe operating condition
- Assure adequate maintenance and repair records for vehicles and equipment
- Report to supervisor any mechanical failure or defect of vehicle(s) which could render the vehicle(s) unsafe for operation
- Executes preventative maintenance programs to maintain vehicles and equipment in safe operating condition
- Replaces defective vehicle and equipment parts/systems for the purpose of ensuring the availability of vehicles and equipment in safe operating condition
- Inspects vehicles and ensures conformance with local, state and federal standards completing annual DOT inspections
- Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces in a clean, safe and orderly condition
- Drives service vehicle and performs emergency road service work when required
- Prepares documentation (e.g., repairs, maintenance records, etc.) and provides written support and/or information to comply with regulating guidelines
- Participates in various activities (e.g., meetings, training, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and conveying information
- Willingness to complete additional related training and learn additional job-related skills as required including an annual DOT physical examination
- Maintains a working technical knowledge of all mechanical functions and repair procedures of fleet vehicles and equipment
- Observes safety rules at all times
Requirements:
- Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License (CDL-A with air brake endorsement a plus)
- Certified Mechanic in heavy trucks a plus
- ASE Certification or State Certification a plus
- Experience with tractor and trailer repairs
- Knowledge with electrical and hydraulics
- Experience with heavy equipment repairs a must
- Experience with small engine repair such as welders and generators
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and/or operate scissor/boom lifts while working at height.
- Work in permit & non-permit required confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
- Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 50 pounds regularly/occasionally
- Must be able to respond quickly to auditory alarms, visual signals, or other effective means to communicate hazards
- Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
- Must be able to work in cold/hot environments.
- Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
