What are the responsibilities and job description for the Income Maintenance Caseworker I (Food and Nutrition Services) position at Lee County Government?
General Definition of Work:
This position will be assigned to administer the application process and determine eligibility for Food and Nutrition Services (FNS). This caseworker will be one of three primary intake caseworkers responsible for taking applications from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM daily as scheduled on the intake calendar. Applications received by methods other than in-person will be assigned on a rotating basis. Responsibilities include interviewing clients to obtain required information, entering the applications in the North Carolina Families Accessing Services through Technology (NC FAST) system, verifying the information obtained, processing benefits for the first month of eligibility for emergency applications, and determining ongoing eligibility for each application taken. This position will require one to interview applicants on a daily basis.
Duties also include the administration of the Disaster Food and Nutrition Services Program (DSNAP) as needed. Participation in Shelter Management is required in the event of emergencies or disasters. This service, if required, will take precedence over duties described in this position vacancy announcement. This position is required to perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and could be subject to overtime which is given in the form of compensatory time.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills. Ability to communicate with clients, applicants, and the public to obtain data, and to explain and interpret rules, policies, and procedures. Ability to understand the needs and problems of clients/applicants. Ability to learn the program area of assignment and all agency programs and services which could affect the client/applicant.
Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum; or graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling of data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program; or graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, the gathering and compiling of data, the analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
