Collects and distributes adult mosquitoes for use in the disease surveillance program and assist in the care of the District’s animal population.

Set and collects mosquitoes traps used for mosquito surveillance Assist with mosquito identification as neededRecord trapping data into database at time the traps were set and collected in MapVision iPhone appMeasures and records landing rates and enters into database at time landing rate was taken in MapVision iPhone appAssist with distributing requested species into pools for RT-PCR testingAssist with maintaining and repairing all trapsSet and collect mosquito traps for special event spray requests and complaint calls as needed Feed and water animal population as neededCleans and maintains the animal rearing facilities and sentinel animal cages as neededAssist with collecting blood from the sentinel chickens and/or other sentinel animals as needed and records data in field journalAssist with preparing the collected blood samples for analysis by centrifuging blood separating the sera from the blood cells and removing the sera to vials for LCMCD and state laboratoriesFollow all District’s Safety policies and procedures at all timesResponsible for ensuring all assigned equipment is maintained and repaired as neededMust have regular and predictable attendanceOther duties and projects as assigned

Work Environment/Physical Requirements: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical Requirements: Heavy physical activity is regularly required when in the field including lifting, reaching for, pulling and carrying up to fifty pounds, reaching and pulling with arms, stooping, kneeling, bending frequently, walking for long distances, sitting for long periods of time while driving a vehicle, climbing over and around natural obstacles, climbing in and out of vehicles and equipment and climbing up and down ladders. Must be able to use hands and fingers to type, and grab and operate a variety of hand tools and equipment. Excellent vision, both close and distance, is regularly required. Work Environment: The work environment varies but normally is outdoors but may include workshops, flight line, animal rearing/storage facilities, heliports, laboratories, office buildings, helicopters, boats, vehicles, mangroves, fields, and islands. When in the field, exposure to all types of weather will occur while working outside, and exposure to sun, rain, mud, manure, a variety of farm animals and insects will occur frequently. Frequent local travel is required. Occasional out of town travel is required. Noise level is usually low but occasional exposure to moderate noise levels when around helicopters. Working with and around chemicals, which are stored, handled, applied/used and disposed of according to exact labeling instructions, is required frequently.
