Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
Classification: Full-time, Hourly Employee - Union
Salary Level: $29.82/hr as determined by Labor Contract with IUOE Local 150

Position Overview:
The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing all Lee County Highway Department light vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Repair and maintain all Lee County Highway Department equipment.
- Weld and braze equipment when necessary.
- Install injectors, pistons, liners, cam shafts, brakes, tires, cylinder heads, rod and main bearings, oil pans, fan hubs, differentials and batteries; Replace transmissions and other parts.
- Perform and keep records of all maintenance and service work.
- Capable of operating all County equipment.
- Instruct personnel on the proper care and maintenance of equipment.
- Take refresher courses as assigned by the County Engineer.
- Aid in ordering shop supplies.
- Order repair parts for equipment.
- Report all needed repairs of equipment to the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Perform all normal roadway maintenance functions from time to time.
- Perform snow and ice removal on a designated route during the winter months.
- May be asked to act for Maintenance Foreman in the Maintenance Foreman's absence.
- Perform traffic flagging duties from time to time (must be certified).
- Any other duties that from time to time may be assigned within the scope of position.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Work Environment:
This position operates in a professional shop and workplace environment. The employee is sometimes exposed to outside weather conditions.

Tools Used:
All air, had and power tools necessary to maintain and repair trucks and heavy equipment.
Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Regular days and hours of work are Monday thru Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm with periods or occasions of mandatory overtime.
Travel:
No travel is expected for this position.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required
- Eight (8) years of progressive experience in maintaining trucks and heavy equipment, preferred
- Passage of routine and random drug and alcohol screenings, required
Work Authorization/Security Clearance:
Background check is required for this position.
