Landscape Project Manager

Lee Schneller Fine Gardens
Warren, ME Full Time
POSTED ON 3/4/2025 CLOSED ON 4/4/2025

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Landscape Project Manager position at Lee Schneller Fine Gardens?

Opportunity to join an unconventional, well-established fine gardening company with an excellent reputation, specializing in designing, building and maintaining Japanese-inspired, naturalistic and continuously blooming gardens in midcoast Maine. Seasonal work, April through November, with part time opportunities in the winter. We need someone with strong team building and people skills who is capable of project management, on-the-ground design and supervising small teams. Our crew of about ten employees is very tight knit, and we usually adapt our designs as we build each garden, involving the whole group in the aesthetic process. We have very close relationships with our clients and create gardens closely tailored to their needs and desires. We use Japanese garden design principles (such as “hide and reveal”, “framed views”, “the beauty of empty space”, etc.) in most of our gardens, even the non-Japanese gardens. Every two years the crew spends two weeks in Kyoto together studying gardens. Knowledge of ornamental horticulture (northeastern US), Japanese garden design, small project management, customer relations, stonework, aesthetic pruning and Japanese language are desirable. Must have a strong desire to learn continuously and to work cooperatively with others. We are looking for someone willing to make a commitment of multiple years.

Midcoast Maine offers outstanding culture and quality of life in its natural beauty, dining, performance arts and fine art. Very fulfilling work for someone who has yearned for the chance to be part of a creative group and to be given the opportunity to design. Winters (December through March) off to pursue your own projects and interests, although there are some winter hours available for pruning, office work and design work.
