We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Care Worker to provide Community Networking Services to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) who also experience behavioral challenges. This role involves supporting clients in community-based activities that enhance their social, vocational, and independent living skills while promoting inclusion and personal growth.
As a Direct Care Worker, you will work closely with individuals to encourage community participation, develop meaningful relationships, and implement behavior support strategies in accordance with individualized service plans (ISPs).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to individuals with IDD in community-based settings.
- Assist clients in accessing community resources, participating in social activities, and engaging in skill-building opportunities.
- Implement behavioral support strategies as outlined in the individual's Behavior Support Plan (BSP) or ISP.
- Promote independence, self-advocacy, and social integration through structured and unstructured community engagement.
- Monitor and document progress, behaviors, and incidents according to organizational and regulatory guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with families, caregivers, case managers, and behavioral specialists to ensure coordinated care.
- Assist with transportation to and from community activities, as needed.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of clients while in the community.
- Adhere to all company policies, state regulations, and ethical standards related to the care of individuals with disabilities.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in a related field (Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, etc.) is a plus.
- Experience working with individuals with IDD and behavioral challenges is strongly preferred.
- Ability to implement behavior management techniques and follow individualized support plans.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license, a clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift, transfer, or assist individuals as needed.
- CPR/First Aid certification and other trainings as well (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Willingness to complete required training in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and behavioral supports.
- Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
