Senior Tax Accountant
Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Tax Accountant to lead the preparation and review of federal and state tax returns. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, the ability to self-review work with minimal corrections needed at higher levels, and strong collaboration with other tax professionals. The ideal candidate will ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all tax-related matters while maintaining thorough documentation for historical reference.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently prepare and review U.S. consolidated corporate income tax returns (federal and state), ensuring accuracy and compliance with minimal revisions.
- Prepare and calculate quarterly income tax estimates.
- Conduct tax research and planning initiatives to optimize tax positions.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger tax accounts on a quarterly basis.
- Collaborate with accounting and other departments to gather and validate financial data for tax filings.
- Analyze tax books within the fixed asset system, reconciling differences between GAAP and tax records.
- Prepare domestic tax reporting for foreign entities.
- Identify and optimize state and federal business tax credits with minimal supervision.
- Assist in due diligence for acquisitions, providing tax-related insights.
- Support responses for federal and state tax audits, including gathering necessary documentation.
- Stay up to date on federal, state, and local tax laws, ensuring company compliance.
- Assist in developing and implementing tax policies and procedures.
- Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s in Taxation and CPA certification highly preferred.
- 3–4 years of tax experience, with a preference for public accounting experience.
- Extensive experience with federal consolidated returns (preparation and review) and multi-state tax compliance.
- Strong conceptual understanding of accounting and financial statements; experience with tax accounting is a plus.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality work independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and managing large data files.
- Ability to interpret financial reports, legal documents, and tax policies effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
