Job Title: Family Law/Estate Paralegal
Location: Columbia, Maryland
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Family Law/Estate Paralegal with 3-4 years of experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in family law and estate planning and administration, though we welcome applicants with experience in other areas of law. This role requires a proactive individual with strong organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and a passion for supporting clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support two (2) attorneys in managing family law and estate planning and administration cases
- Draft and prepare legal documents, such as motions, pleadings, subpoenas, discovery responses, administration accounts, and some estate planning documents
- Organize and maintain case files, ensuring all documentation is accurate, complete, and up-to-date
- Coordinate communication with clients, opposing counsel, and court staff to facilitate case progress
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation
- Conduct legal research and gather supporting documents to assist in case preparation
- Manage case calendars and ensure timely filings, deadlines, and hearings
- Participate in case strategy discussions and provide support to attorneys as needed
Qualifications:
- 3-4 years of paralegal experience, preferably in family law and/or estate planning and administration
- Paralegal certification or degree in paralegal studies is preferred but not required
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Proficient in legal research, document management, and case management software
- Strong interpersonal skills with a client-centered approach
- Ability to work independently and in a remote setting
- Experience with Clio is a plus
- Familiarity with family law-specific and estate forms, procedures, and state regulations preferred
- Experience drafting documents related to child custody, divorce proceedings, and support cases
Salary: $40,000 - $55,000 (commensurate with experience)
