Additional Essential Duty and Responsibilities:

All teachers in the Spanish Immersion program are required to participate in professional development dual language (DL) instruction through Addalingua.  This dual language professional development will prepare our teachers in the best practices in Spanish Immersion and give them a clear understanding of utilizing the Addalingua frameworks required for Spanish Immersion instruction.

Position Summary: To fulfill the mission of Legacy Christian Academy by inspiring the next generation of leaders through the authentic integration of Christian faith and learning.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

With respect to Academic Leadership the teacher will:

  • have knowledge and understanding of the Christian philosophy of education that will enable him/her to provide leadership and guidance in the school’s development of and commitment to a Christian worldview;
  • teach entirely in Spanish
  • have knowledge of the school’s curriculum, standards, and mission;
  • have knowledge of the physical/emotional development of children—particularly at the age level ?of the children being taught—and understand the problems they face; ?
  • plan a program of study that as much as possible meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, engaging and challenging them to do their best work;
  • employ a variety of instructional aids, methods, and materials that will provide for creative teaching to reach the whole child spiritually, mentally, physically, socially, and emotionally;
  • plan through approved channels the balanced classroom use of field trips, guest speakers, and other media;
  • regularly assess the learning of students, provide progress reports as required, and initiate parent conferences as needed while responding in a timely manner to parent inquiries and requests for help or information;
  • work collaboratively with colleagues and principal regarding classroom, student, and instructional matters;
  • participate in beginning-of-year staff orientation, staff devotionals, and staff meetings; ?

 

With respect to Spiritual Leadership the teacher will:

  • have a conviction that God has called him/her to Christian school teaching.
  • pray with and for students every day.
  • motivate students to accept God’s gift of salvation, and help them grow in their faith through his/her witness and Christian role modeling.
  • love children and lead them to a realization of their self-worth in Christ.
  • maintain high standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity in all personal and professional matters.
  • ensure that the classroom work environment is Christian-based, nurturing, wholesome, and loving.
  • work with the administration and staff to address the spiritual formation needs of the students.
  • follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with conflict with students, parents, staff, and administration.

 

With respect to Administrative Leadership the teacher will:

  • keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises to maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment.
  • maintain a physical presence with the students by attendance and participation in school chapels, assemblies, athletics events, and other presentations.
  • participate in beginning-of-year staff orientation, staff devotionals, and staff meetings.
  • know the Academy Preparedness Plan of Action. Participate in required emergency safety drills in coordination with school leadership.
  • inform the administration in a timely manner if unable to fulfill any assigned duty.

 

 With respect to Supplemental Responsibilities the teacher will:

 

  • participate in the school’s development programs and activities in areas of constituency relations, fund-raising, and student recruitment and retention.
  • supervise extracurricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned. Embrace servant leadership.
  • support the broader program of the school by attending extracurricular activities when possible.
  • maintain a clean, attractive, and well-ordered classroom, utilizing bulletin boards and wall space in an instructive, interesting and attractive way that contributes to the excellence of learning.
  • participate in the end-of-year school closing process, such as the inventorying of textbooks, furniture, and equipment.
  • perform any other duties that may be assigned by the administration.

QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:

Native Spanish speaking, must hold a BA or BS degree from an accredited postsecondary institution and have three or more year’s related experience and/or training. A Master’s degree is a plus.

 

Language Ability:

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, handbooks, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of students and staff.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should demonstrate a reasonable level of computer literacy.  Basic proficiency is needed in word processing, e-mailing, accessing the Internet, school management software and curriculum mapping software.

  • have a working knowledge of and follow LCA’s Employee Handbook, Parent & Student Handbook.
  • sign and live by the school’s Lifestyle Statement and Moral Integrity Statement as a condition for employment and continued employment in this ministry;
  • maintain confidentiality in the operation of the classroom and the school;
  • refrain from unwholesome talk, including profanity, slang (language widely used and accepted, but not appropriate for godliness) or jokes that may be offensive;
  • place his/her school ministry ahead of other jobs or volunteer activities; and

maintain a personal appearance that models cleanliness, modesty, and good taste consistent with school policy.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Teachers are responsible for the safe supervision of students both inside and outside the classroom including, but not limited to the lunchroom, hallways, playground, and carline.
