LEGACY EARLY COLLEGE OVERVIEW
Legacy Early College is a K4-12 public charter school that originated through the vision of William Brown in 2010 with an unwavering focus on “To and Through College” at every grade level. Legacy’s model combines academics, nutrition, physical fitness and mental health. In addition to our college driven academic standards, meals are made on site, scholars participate in PE everyday and Social-Emotional Literacy is integrated in the culture and curriculum. We currently occupy the site of the historic Parker High School and the former Greenville County Fine Arts Center.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The School Social Worker provides direct and indirect student services to reduce barriers to education, increase social/emotional growth and provide links to needed services.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze policies, programs, regulations, social-emotional, legal and ethical concerns in order to provide comprehensive professional development and support services.
- Coordinates, develops and supervises evidence-based education and prevention programs including but not limited to bullying, substance abuse, violence/aggression, suicide/self-harm and social-emotional learning.
- Coordinates, develops and facilitates professional development for teachers, staff and administrators in the area of social/emotional learning, self-care and trauma sensitive schools.
- Identifies and assesses potential barriers to student academic success. Understands and offers consultation regarding special student populations - homelessness, students in poverty, refugees, victims of trauma etc.
- Designs, facilitates and oversees direct services for children and families that include assessment, crisis intervention, individual and group support services, home visits, case management and advocacy.
- Provides supplemental education of the school’s social-emotional learning program in the form of individual and group sessions to address skill deficits.
- Provides crisis intervention support in the event of a family, school or community crisis or disaster
- Works with school homeless and foster care liaison to coordinate services such as transportation and free/reduced meals for youth experiencing homelessness and out-of-home placement.
- Develops, coordinates and provides services for students, families and staff to meet basic needs.
- Establishes and promotes a continuum of community resources, services and partnerships in order to support all members of the school community.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Degree in Social Work preferred
- A minimum of 2 years related experience
- Experience working with English Language Learners, preferred
- Experience working with under-resourced populations, preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred
Work Schedule
Teachers will operate on the Legacy Early College academic calendar, on the 195-day (10 month school year) schedule. A typical week during normal school hours is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. School Breaks: 1 week Fall (TG), 2 weeks Winter and 1 week Spring.

Work Environment

Position will have periods of extended work week hours, which is required to support both the ongoing development of the region and the delivery of high-quality education for all students.
