Job Description
Job Summary: The driver operates 14 passenger vans or smaller. The driver transports Residents to and from their own home (Legacy Reserve at Fairview Park) to activity outings and to Physician appointments. Prepares and provides appropriate documentation as required. May be responsible for vehicle maintenance and presentation. The position relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks and works under close supervision. Licensure: SC Driver’s License and/or CDL Driver’s License
Essential Functions and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
· Drives a specially equipped van to deliver physically limited Residents to varied destinations. Assures that wheelchair lifts and tie down equipment are properly operated and that participants are delivered to appointments in a timely manner. Assures that all Participants are in seats and have seatbelts properly fitted and secured.
· Follows established schedules, adjusts schedules to meet unanticipated changes, determines the safest and most efficient pick-up and delivery routes.
· Assists Resident's on and off the van in a safe and courteous manner. Deals with medical equipment and other emergencies that may arise.
· Inspects van daily utilizing van checklist sheets. Reports the need for maintenance.
· Maintains van in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
· Maintains accurate and time maintenance and repair logs
· Responsible for safe operation of the Vehicle and is responsible for oversight of keeping the van with adequate fuel, to avoid "running out of gas" while in transport with or without Residents.
· Completes documentation as required.
· Focuses on the customer; identifies the Resident's needs; responds to the Resident; satisfies the Resident; takes ownership.
· Responds immediately to Resident's needs and solving repetitive service problems.
· Demonstrates enthusiasm and positive attitude with customers.
· Must be available to work flexible hours, such as weekdays, mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
· Must display sincere interest in caring for the elderly.
· Must be a team player and willing to have a positive working relationship with all associates.
· Must be organized, assertive, demonstrate critical thinking skills and be an effective communicator.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
· Minimum Required Experience 5 years of good driving experience: no more than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years and zero DUI convictions or reckless driving convictions; periodic motor vehicle/ driving record checks may be obtained throughout employment.
· One year experience transporting individuals with special mobility needs.
· One year experience with the frail and elderly population.
· Education: High School Diploma or GED Training
· Special Skills: Must be able to work effectively in a team environment and operate handicap accessible vehicles.
· Licensure: SC Driver’s License and/or CDL Driver’s License
