Description
Legal Aid is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Outreach Paralegal to join our Scottsbluff office. This position will assist Legal Aid of Nebraska in providing restorative justice services to those affected by opioid use. The Outreach Paralegal will play a crucial role in creating and implementing a public education campaign and coordinating services to assist clients with applications for pardons, set-asides, and record sealing.
Essential Functions:
Public Education Program
a. Develop and execute a comprehensive public education campaign to inform the public of their legal options, and how Legal Aid can assist them.
b. Collaborate with partner agencies, including housing agencies, public health agencies, and other community partners for referrals and outreach.
Organize and conduct educational sessions on the processes for obtaining pardons, set-asides, and record sealing.
Service Coordination
a. Coordinate clinic activities aimed at helping clients with drug-related criminal histories.
b. Assist clients, under the supervision of an attorney, in preparing application materials for pardons, set-asides, and record sealing.
c. Track all applicable data points for grant reporting purposes.
Client & Community Impact
a. Focus on serving Nebraskans in Region 1 who are in recovery and have drug-related criminal histories, enhancing their access to employment, housing, and public benefits.
b. Support the wider community, including clients' families, employers, and local communities, by contributing to greater economic activity and stability.
Requirements
- Must possess a passion for social justice and poverty related issues, as well as sensitivity to working with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Commitment to Legal Aid’s mission, vision and values.
- Flexibility to work evenings and occasional weekends.
- Strong communication skills. Written and spoken fluency in Spanish and English preferred.
- Ability to work independently as well as on a team.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Maintains a positive rapport with staff, participants, and community partners.
- Must demonstrate professionalism in communication, teamwork, technical skills and be comfortable working with data.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
