Legal Aid of Western Missouri Staff Accountant – Central Kansas City, Missouri Legal Aid of Western Missouri (LAWMO) seeks a full-time Staff Accountant for our Central Office in Kansas City, Missouri. The Staff Accountant assists the Director of Finance in managing accounting tasks and funds. General responsibilities include financial management, audit preparation, general ledger entries, bank account reconciliation, client trust account reconciliation, cash log, investment accounts and other account reconciliations. The Staff Accountant assists the Director of Finance in managing accounting tasks and funds. General responsibilities include financial management, audit preparation, general ledger entries, bank account reconciliation, client trust account reconciliation, cash log, investment accounts and other account reconciliations. Some of the general responsibilities include:
- Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with GAAP, client and organizational policies, and any funding requirements.
- Complete and prepare account reconciliations, including bank and investment statements, balance sheet accounts, payroll withholding reconciliation.
- Complete journal entries in accounting software.
- Continuously identify and make suggestions for work process improvements to streamline accounting processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Support the annual financial audit.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in a financial role including experience in fund accounting.
- Ability to analyze and interpret accounting data with analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives and identify exceptions that need further examination and resolution.
- Strong understanding of accounting theory and audits.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management and external agencies to maximize performance creativity problem solving and results.
