Role Description
We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Community Outreach Coordinator to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in organizing and facilitating community education events across various areas of law, including landlord-tenant, consumer, family law, domestic violence, elder law, health law, and public benefits. This position requires close collaboration with our team of attorneys to effectively serve the community's legal needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize and coordinate community education events, clinics, and workshops on legal topics relevant to the community throughout our service area: including the cities of Roanoke and Salem and the counties of Bedford, Botetourt, Craig, Franklin, and Roanoke.
- Develop educational materials and presentations in collaboration with attorneys.
- Conduct outreach to community organizations, stakeholders, and potential partners to promote legal education initiatives.
- Assist attorneys in preparing for community events and follow-up activities.
- Maintain records of outreach activities and prepare reports on program outcomes.
- Provide general support to attorneys as needed.
- Some evening and weekend work may be required to accommodate community events.
- Frequent short-distance and occasional long-distance travel may be required
Qualifications
- Enthusiasm for and commitment to advocacy for justice.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to the mission of the Legal Aid Society and to serving low-income communities.
- Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
- Vehicle and operator’s license.
