Job Summary:
Legal Aid of San Bernardino (LASSB) has an immediate, full-time dual position for an Intake/Receptionist and Hotline Legal Assistant. The ideal candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to serving disadvantaged populations, and the ability to interact with a wide range of clients. We will give preference to candidates who have experience providing services to low-income individuals.

Responsibilities

Answer inbound phone calls and returns calls with professionalism, enthusiasm, and compassion
- Assist the public at the door and determines the purpose of their visit
- Pre-screens applicants via phone and assigns to advocate
- Show empathy to clients and puts them at ease during their difficult time
- Ensure the reception area is clean and presentable, with all necessary resource materials
- Assist attorney and paralegals with delegated office tasks
- Maintain caseload of housing-related matters, under attorney supervision, including, but not limited to matters involving eviction defense and administrative hearings for subsidized housing.
- Maintain detailed and accurate case notes and timekeeping in the case management system.
- Using LegalServer, and other programs, collect and maintain data required under specific grant requirements.
- Assist attorney with intake and initial client appointments.
- Prepare and maintain client files, electronic and/or physical.
- Interview clients. Effectively and efficiently communicate with clients including accurately relaying legal advice provided by the attorney.
- Perform various clerical duties such as record-keeping, document copying, e-Filing, etc.
- Observe confidentiality of attorney-client relationship.
- May be required to work at clinics and/or workshops located in local courts
- Perform other duties as required to meet the needs of the organization.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) with full proficiency
- Customer service and/or sales experience
- Ability to manage their time and multi-task effectively
- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure; and
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Punctual and professional
- Ability to communicate effectively with a range of individuals
- Ability to exhibit compassion, empathy, and professionalism
Onsite - Monday - Thursday - 7:00am - 5:30pm
Salary : $41,600 - $45,760
