Senior DevOps Application Engineer

In this critical role, you will engage in the evaluation, planning, and implementation of cutting-edge technological solutions to ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of Lehigh University's IT infrastructure and applications. With a focus on bridging the gap between traditional systems engineering and application development, you will maintain and manage systems infrastructure both on-premises and in the cloud, as well as contribute to application development projects. This position is a Grade: 11 - 40 with an approximate salary range of $81,450-$99,080 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Write code and scripts to develop and maintain applications and automation tools.
• Create new applications to meet the needs of the university and contribute to the development of new features and functionality for existing applications.
• Design, implement, manage, and maintain highly available and scalable infrastructure systems in a hybrid environment using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Continuously improve performance, availability, and reliability of infrastructure systems.
• Analyze emerging technologies and assess their potential to meet the needs of the university.
• Implement comprehensive monitoring and alerting systems to ensure the observability of infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and resolve system issues, working with stakeholders to understand the impact and prioritize solutions.
• Collaborate with the team to continuously improve and implement DR/BC procedures
  
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or Information Systems or a related degree; Master's Degree preferred
• Five to eight years of related work experience
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• In-depth knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems, virtualization technologies such as VMWare, and cloud computing.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles, data structures, and algorithms.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Experience with scripting & programming languages such as Python, PHP, Go, Bash, Perl, JavaScript or PowerShell.
• Experience with version control systems (Git) and DevOps practices.
• Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Salt, Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a timely and efficient manner.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
