Definition:
Under the direction of the Director, Student Services, provides psychological testing, consultation and related services at assigned schools.
Typical Duties:
- Assesses intellectual, educational and social/emotional characteristics of students and reviews other basic information necessary for evaluating those students referred because of learning disabilities.
- Performs diagnostic evaluations for identification and assistance in remediation of learning difficulties.
- Assesses those students referred for personal adjustment problems to determine possible needs for referral to private or community agencies for further assistance.
- Interprets the results of psychological assessments and recommendations to students, other staff members and parents.
- Provides, as needed, individual and group counseling on short-term basis to students and/or parents.
- Participates with other professional staff in assessing the needs of students referred to the Child Study Committee.
- Participates in the development and revision of the Individualized Education Program for students with exceptional needs.
- Participates in meetings and provides advisory services to staff related to behavioral learning or curriculum problems.
- Provides written or oral reports summarizing assessments and/or contacts as directed.
- Participates in professional meetings related to Special Education.
- Maintains own professional competence through participation in District, regional or state sponsored in-service activities.
- Provides liaison between school and community.
- Coordinates and evaluates community resources as to their effectiveness in meeting needs of district students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree is required. Graduate work must include concentration in school psychology and related areas. Desired, but not required, is a background in clinical work and a working knowledge of the school system.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
Must hold a valid, general, Pupil Personnel Services Credential or Standard Designated Services Credential with a school psychologist endorsement.
