The Seasonal Part-Time Parks Maintenance position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks to maintain and enhance the appearance, safety, and overall quality of parks and recreational facilities. Duties may include landscaping, mowing, trimming, painting, litter removal, athletic field preparation, and assisting with minor repairs and special projects. This position requires flexibility, as some responsibilities will be performed during weekdays, evenings, and weekends, depending on operational needs and weather conditions.
The seasonal position will begin as early as April 1, 2025, and will continue through the end of the summer season. This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors and contributing to the upkeep of community parks and green spaces.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Carries out tasks assigned by the Parks Manager or assigned supervisor in a safe and timely manner, daily general park duties.

Parks duties may include mowing, athletic fields, trash collection, landscaping, special events and general maintenance and repair projects.

General maintenance and repair projects of all park district facilities including installation and repairs of playground equipment; minor upkeep to buildings, windows, and doors; painting and cleaning.

Ability to use basic hand tools, landscape tools and small power tool equipment.

Assist in setup and breakdown of special events, athletic events, and weekend programming. Therefore, must be able to work some weekends, evenings and/or special events when required.

Safe operation of district equipment, vehicles and trailers including but not limited to; zero turn mowers, string trimmers, leaf blowers, trucks, buses, vans, trailers, motorized utility vehicles, ballfield groomers, etc.

Perform all tasks in a safe manner by wearing personal protective equipment as required and adhering to all safety guidelines.

Seasonal removal of snow from parking lots, sidewalks, and throughout the park district, as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older in compliance with Illinois Child Labor Laws and the Fair Labor Standards Act.

High School Graduate or Equivalent.

Must have a Valid Illinois driver’s license.

Ability to follow direction and work both independently and as a team.

CPR/AED/First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.
Work Environment:
Willingness to learn ground maintenance and operate various vehicles, trailers, and equipment. Must have the ability to follow directions and work well with fellow team members. Should possess the physical ability to carry out assigned duties and be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. Reads and understands safety rules and regulations of the Park District Manuals. Employee may be required to work both inside and outside during various environmental conditions, such as, but not limited to, rain and mud, extremely hot and cold temperatures, exposure to dust, fumes, dirt, noise, insect bites and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
