Context Of The Job

The Honors College (HC) recruits and currently supports approximately 2,000 highly talented undergraduate students across all colleges at the University. The college is expected to grow, and this position will be a catalyst for this growth.

The HC Undergraduate Student Services team oversees undergraduate recruitment, new student orientation, academic advising and support, and Honors degree clearance.

Under the limited direction of the HC Senior Assistant Dean, the Associate Director of Undergraduate Recruitment is a key member of the Undergraduate Student Services team, most notably responsible for creating, implementing, and overseeing the recruitment and admissions activities for both first-year and transfer students (both external and internal to UD). The Associate Director of Undergraduate Recruitment develops strategies to increase the HC applicant pool and improve yield. In collaboration with the co-curricular coordinator, Associate Director of Undergraduate Recruitment will oversee the academic component of the first-year experience and assist with the engagement plan for all entering the Honors College.

Major Responsibilities

  • Strategize, implement, and manage all aspects of the HC’s complex recruitment process.
  • Work in collaboration with the leadership and UD Admissions staff to yield a diverse and competitive freshmen/transfer class each year.
  • Oversee all recruitment, yield activities and events including the logistics for virtual and in-person events.
  • Partner with Admissions on the logistics of the Distinguished Scholars Weekend.
  • Manage Honors aspects of UD Admissions events, and coordinate Honors presence at other relevant recruitment events across campus.
  • Coordinate student, staff, and faculty representation for the various other recruitment events.
  • Oversee the HC’s Student Ambassador Program, a volunteer group of Honors students that assist in promoting the college via recruitment and public-relations events. Provide strategic recruitment, selection, training, mentoring, and supervision.
  • Cultivate relationships and communicate effectively with prospective students and their families both in-person and virtually. Engage with families during campus visits.
  • Work in collaboration with the communications team to develop a yearly communications plan for prospective students through all stages of the recruitment and admission process. Develop annual talking points and presentations used by HC administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Recommend regular enhancements to HC and UD prospective student webpages.
  • Lead and evaluate the development and implementation of data-driven strategies, programs, and events to effectively recruit and yield students for the college.
  • Interpret complex data and run multifaceted reports related to the various stages of the application process including prospects, applicants, admits and deposits.
  • Cultivate connections with high school counselors, teachers, associate program and community college advisors.
  • Serves on the Honors new student orientation team.
  • In collaboration with the co-curricular coordinator, oversee the academic component of the first-year experience.
  • Assist with the engagement plan for all students entering the Honors College.
  • Assist with student advising and other student support activities.
  • Comply with university policies, procedures, and best practices regarding protecting data and following UD data governance rules.
  • Work within the confines of an office budget.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred, and five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of higher education.
  • Advanced working knowledge of academic recruitment, the challenges of yielding a class, retention issues, and what it takes for students to succeed and graduate.
  • Experience with student services and academic advising preferred.
  • A collegial individual with a positive attitude who values being part of a team.
  • Ability to multitask; strong initiative, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively and independently and as a team member with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to present effectively to small and large groups and to work productively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to gather data, analyze information, and prepare and present reports.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Knowledge of event programming trends and effectiveness for student recruitment and admissions.
  • Knowledge of student recruitment at the college level.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor teams of undergraduates including organizing and scheduling work assignments.
  • Proficient computer skills including use of presentation, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communications skills.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures and backgrounds.

  • Includes some evening and weekend work.
  • Some travel may be required. Valid driver’s license required.
