CONTEXT OF THE JOB :
The Honors College (HC) recruits and currently supports approximately 2,000 highly talented undergraduate students across all colleges at the University. The college is expected to grow, and this position will support the academic needs of these additional students.
The HC Undergraduate Student Services team manages the effective delivery of undergraduate recruitment, academic advising and support, degree clearance, and the coordination of the HC convocation ceremony.
Under the limited direction of the HC Senior Assistant Dean, the Academic Program Manager serves as a key member of the Undergraduate Student Services team, most notably responsible for overseeing advisement support and academic guidance to all Honors students, faculty, and staff. The Academic Program Manager also manages the Interdisciplinary Collegiate Honors degree track from entry to graduation.
The Academic Program Manager (APM) facilitates knowledge of Honors academic expectations to undergraduate services teams across campus. The Academic Program Manager provides guidance and consultation to students on academic matters such as educational and career planning (curriculum options, degree requirements, registration), and academic policies and procedures. The APM monitors HC students’ academic progress towards minimum GPA requirements, awards, and enriched degrees. The APM manages enrollment of Honors courses in CLSS and UDSIS and prepares data that will help in strategic planning for the HC. The APM will also help assist with college recruitment and yield activities, new student orientation, and other college-wide events. This position also interprets academic policy and procedures and supports faculty and staff with advisement-related issues. Excellent communication skills, a high level of attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently are required.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Facilitates knowledge of Honors academic expectations to undergraduate services teams across campus.
- Provide advisement support services to all HC undergraduates and prospective students including those considering entering Honors.
- Provide advisement to students on the requirements for General Honors Award, Honors Degree, Interdisciplinary Collegiate Honors Degree, and Honors Degree with Distinction, as well as academic planning for double majors / degrees.
- Manage the Interdisciplinary Collegiate Honors Degree from entry to graduation.
- Assist the Senior Assistant Dean and other Student Services team members with short- and long-term strategic planning related to HC advisement, student retention and success. Work collaboratively to analyze and evaluate academic advising functions, policies, and procedures and identify where improvements may be necessary.
- Utilize Stellic as a means to enhance academic success.
- Provide extensive assistance with coordination of new-student orientation activities, including supervision of a team of Honors Peer Advisors.
- Manage Honors College course scheduling enrollment in CLSS and UDSIS. Work with the Senior Assistant Dean to communicate with departments across the University regarding Honors course offerings.
- Maintain database of Honors courses. Analyze data to guide Honors College course planning and department requests. Disseminate course offerings to students. Monitor enrollment of Honors courses in UDSIS during registration.
- Assess Honors students’ academic progress, including Honors course completion and minimum GPA requirements for freshmen and upperclassmen.
- Produce and provide regular updates to students by communicating academic and student support resources through various communication tools.
- Recommend enhancements to student service pages of the HC website.
- Verifying recipients of the General Honors Award and support annual recognition event.
- Participate in undergraduate recruitment and pre-admission activities, as needed.
- Contribute to the College’s assessment of major strategic planning objectives and initiatives.
- Act on behalf of the Senior Assistant Dean when necessary.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
