Job Summary
The Logistics and Distribution Category Director works in conjunction with the Sr, Director, Logistics and Distribution Management and/or Vice President, Strategic Sourcing and Category Management in managing enterprise cost optimization projects in their assigned category(s). This includes sourcing and utilization initiatives related to expense reduction. The position requires significant collaboration across the organization and vendor community. Focus areas of this role include:
- Inventory analysis and optimization
- Par Optimization: implement appropriate inventory levels.
- Inventory Optimization: Work directly with ORs and Cath labs to reduce/right size inventory levels and increase turns in areas where the majority of supply costs occur.
- Distribution Category Management
- Manage the service and delivery performance through defining and achieving KPIs.
- Primary relationship owner for all distribution agreements (Owens & Minor, Cardinal, Fisher & Medline).
- Conduct pricing audits.
- Develop, manage, and implement the distribution plan and movement of goods to (and through) our hospitals to provide patient care. Develop the business strategies with the Category Management team who is responsible for the RFP, negotiate contracts, and execute contract launch. Is able to verbalize CHS’ Category management approach to total spend management.
- Set and manage the sourcing options for medical surgical goods that are standardized and predictable for the health system.
- Review the movement of goods in the hospitals. Help move to standards for mins/maxs and move slow/no moving products for inventory optimization for the system.
- Manage distribution supplier performance and leads quarterly business review processes including evaluating vendor compliance with contracts and managing vendor rebates; resolves vendor product or service issues for the category.
- Evaluate primary and secondary sources of supply to understand competitive landscape, supplier resiliency and identify opportunities for better pricing and/or utilization. Maintains deep understanding of the distribution landscape as well as any emerging technologies for the category
- Provide oversight to the agreement edits, updates required to meet the performance requirements of the contracts and amendments for pending and existing agreements. Participate in the negotiation of favorable contract terms and conditions and pricing with suppliers with the appropriate category teams to move goods in the most efficient and cost effective manner.
- Develop and implement approved strategies/contract project plans that create leverage, mitigate risk, and anticipate the direction of the market. Manage internal communications across teams and work with key stakeholders and subject matter experts (i.e., legal, finance, operations).
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for distribution relations to refine high performing distribution strategies.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years in a supply chain healthcare setting in:
- project management
- value analysis
- purchased services contracting; IT and/or Facilities and Infrastructure contracting experience preferred
- healthcare contracting
- Proven negotiator with successful track record
- Excellent time management and critical thinking skills; ability to prioritize
- Corporate experience in a multi-hospital setting; ERP experience with Oracle; experience with Healthcare Group Purchasing Organization and Distribution (preferred)
