- Move and work safely within a fabrication shop environment, constantly vigilant of hazards to self and coworkers.
- Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and other written instructions.
- Perform simple to complex fitting assignmentsperblueprints and layout specifications.
- Execute welding in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions.
- Use weld gauges to ensure adherence to the proper welding procedure as per drawings.
- Operate a portable grinder as necessary.
- Perform GMAW (MIG), Flux-Core, and stick-rod welding.
- Select appropriate weld wire for the job.
- Clean weld joints or workpieces usingwirebrush, portable grinder, etc.
- Pre-heat high-strength steel prior to welding and verify temperature with sticks and/or infrared guns.
- Lay out, measure, position, align, and fit components accurately.
- Use jigs and fixtures for precision.
- Move materials with gantry and/or jib cranes.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Demonstrate openness to other duties as assigned and contribute to a positive shop atmosphere.
- Adhere to and maintain high safety standards; attend safety meetings and briefings.
- Set up and operate MIG welding equipment proficiently.
- Expertise in oxy-fuel torch cutting and arc-gouging.
- Ability to reada tape measureand perform arithmetic operations with whole and fractional measurements.
- Familiarity with all equipment and tools necessary for structural welding and fitting tasks.
- Willingness and/or ability to operate material-handling equipment, including forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Perform essential job requirements independently, including lifting/moving up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, bending, squatting, and using sledgehammers up to 20 lbs.
- Use required personal protective equipment and report unsafe conditions/practices.
- High school diploma/GED preferred.
- 3 years of experience as a Structural welder/Fitter
