WGL - Associate Regulatory Affairs Specialist
Provides regulatory support and analysis, within Rate & Regulatory Affairs (R&RA), as it pertains to regulatory filings and issues before the Virginia State Corporation Commission (VA SCC). Monitors regulatory proceedings in Virginia and analyzes impacts of potential outcomes for leadership. Under direction of the Manager – Regulatory Affairs, manages regulatory compliance matters including but not limited to records management, tracking and reporting ongoing commitments/requirements, and supporting other regulatory compliance policies and procedures. Additionally, act as a subject matter liaison concerning a variety of other compliance areas facing the organization. Monitor and coordinate activities to manage compliance performance including regular status of compliance activities.

Job Description
WGL - Associate Regulatory Affairs Specialist
Provides regulatory support and analysis, within Rate & Regulatory Affairs (R&RA), as it pertains to regulatory filings and issues before the Virginia State Corporation Commission (VA SCC). Monitors regulatory proceedings in Virginia and analyzes impacts of potential outcomes for leadership. Under direction of the Manager – Regulatory Affairs, manages regulatory compliance matters including but not limited to records management, tracking and reporting ongoing commitments/requirements, and supporting other regulatory compliance policies and procedures. Additionally, act as a subject matter liaison concerning a variety of other compliance areas facing the organization. Monitor and coordinate activities to manage compliance performance including regular status of compliance activities.
You Will
- Works closely with legal department and business units, supporting all regulatory filings with the VA SCC, including but not limited to R&RA support function on general rate case applications.
- Ensures the timely and accurate updating of jurisdictional tariffs and the posting of those tariffs to the Company website.
- Takes initiative within R&RA on Virginia regulatory matters, identifying regulatory risks to the Company with respect to cost recovery, and compliance with Orders and regulations.
- Reviews VA SCC Orders and provides brief assessments of key points within R&RA and to applicable business units
- Works with internal Company departments to maintain accurate information posted to the Company intranet.
- Monitors and researches regulatory developments in Virginia and other jurisdictions as necessary.
- Promptly handles interactions with Regulatory Staffs, courteously and with the correct information to maintain the Company’s credibility.
- Demonstrates teamwork and a willingness to shift focus and activity to accomplish the departmental objective(s) with the highest priority.
- BS or BA in a quantitative field such as Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Sustainability or Environmental Studies preferred.
- 2 years of experience
- Previous natural gas, or utility work experience is preferred.
- Self-motivated learner that shows strong desire to learn the natural gas industry.
- Demonstrates ability to remain flexible and focused on the objective while multi-tasking and adapting to changing priorities.
- Flexibility to work extended days as often required to meet deadlines established by regulatory agencies and senior management.
- Ability to proficiently operate computer software and hardware for data manipulation, analysis and presentation purposes.
- Ability to successfully influence/persuade to achieve desired business outcomes.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex messages to diverse audiences at all organization levels.
