Job Title: Department Manager - Manufacturing

Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Department Manager to oversee our manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing logistics, ensuring efficient product flow, supervising staff, and maintaining high standards of product quality and production. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent leadership skills and a strong background in manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
Logistics and Product Flow:
Develop and implement logistics strategies to ensure timely delivery of materials and products.
Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with procurement to ensure adequate supply of raw materials.
Optimize product flow within the manufacturing process to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
Collaborate with the supply chain team to streamline logistics operations and reduce costs.
Responsible for 5S goals to ensure all product is safely stored and properly labeled; maintain clean and organized work area.
Supervision of Staff:
Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of manufacturing staff, including line and production workers.
Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement development plans to enhance team capabilities.
Foster a positive work environment and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
Schedule staff shifts and allocate resources effectively to meet production targets.
Product Quality and Production:
Ensure all products meet the company's quality standards and customer specifications, as outlined by the Operations Manager.
Implement and monitor quality control procedures to detect and address defects early in the production process.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and production efficiency.
Coordinate with the machine shop and quality assurance teams to resolve any production issues promptly.
Operational Excellence:
Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess department performance and identify areas for improvement.
Ensure all equipment is properly and safely maintained/repaired to avoid disruption in production an scheduling demands.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and promote a culture of safety within the department.
Lead lean manufacturing initiatives and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Communication and Collaboration:
Communicate regularly with senior management regarding department performance, challenges, and opportunities.
Collaborate with other department managers to align manufacturing operations with overall company goals.
Maintain open lines of communication with staff to address concerns and provide updates on company policies and initiatives.
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, schedules, and work environments.
Qualifications:
Required: 5 years of experience in a manufacturing role (management skills preferred), with a focus on logistics, product flow, and quality control.
Strong leadership and team-building skills.
Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Proficiency in manufacturing software and ERP systems.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures.
Work Environment:
The role is primarily based in a manufacturing facility with regular exposure to industrial conditions.
