Social Studies Teacher (Alternative Education – Leominster Academy [a 9-12 Virtual High School & Leominster Center for Excellence [an in person Credit Recovery program)
Leominster Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Social Studies Teacher to join Leominster Academy, our virtual high school program and Leominster Center for Excellence, in our in-person credit recovery program. This unique position involves working with students in both an in-person credit recovery setting and a fully online alternative program, serving diverse learners who thrive outside of the traditional high school model.
About the Role:
As a Social Studies Teacher in this flexible, student-driven environment, you will:
- Teach high school Social Studies courses (e.g., U.S. History, World History, Civics, Economics) in a blended model—supporting both in-person and virtual students.
- Work closely with students who need credit recovery, flexible pacing, and personalized academic support to achieve graduation requirements.
- Facilitate interactive and engaging instruction using Edgenuity and other digital tools to supplement learning.
- Provide individualized academic support, track progress, and guide students through course completion.
- Collaborate with a team of educators and support staff to meet the unique needs of alternative education students.
- Maintain a supportive and structured classroom environment that fosters student success and accountability.

- Has experience with or is willing to learn online learning platforms.
- Can build strong relationships with students and help them stay motivated and on track.
- Understands the challenges of credit recovery and can create targeted interventions to help students succeed.
- Is flexible, adaptable, and willing to innovate in a non-traditional classroom setting.
Qualifications:
- Massachusetts DESE certification in Social Studies (8-12) required.
- Experience in alternative education, credit recovery, or virtual learning is a plus.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Commitment to student success in a non-traditional learning environment.
- Strong technology skills are preferred.
