This position performs supervisory-level responsibilities in the overall maintenance, care, and operations of facilities and equipment of the Leon County Sheriff's Office. This position ensures quality services and timely completion of projects. The position exercises judgment and individual initiative in the performance of routine duties and in emergency situations, often without immediate supervision. - Assess, identify, and prioritize facilities needs including minor and major repairs and projects.
- Assist leadership in determining facilities priorities in accordance with the approved budget.
- Determine facilities priorities on a short-term and long-term basis and make necessary assignments to subordinates or vendors.
- Coordinate with County Maintenance the requests in the maintenance work request system and ensure timely completion of work orders.
- Conduct facilities maintenance inspections on a monthly basis to ensure the good working order and condition of the Leon County Sheriff's Office.
- Identify report and resolve facilities safety issues and work with Risk Management Administrator to develop an action plan to prevent the re-occurrence of major safety issues.
- Enforce all state and federal health and safety regulations.
- Assess and provide maintenance recommendations to leadership.
- Supervise, direct, and evaluate the work of subordinates in the Facilities Maintenance Section.
- Complete facility repairs and ensure timely completion of work orders in times of staffing shortages.
- Ability to work closely with others as a team.
- Ability to prepare and present clear, accurate, concise, and objective written and oral reports.
- Ability to meet requirements and maintain required licensure and certifications as well as agency-required in-service training.
- Ability to adhere to the standards and principles of the agency's core values and professionally represent the agency.
- Skill in the operation of motor vehicles in a safe and efficient manner. Essentials for this requirement shall include, but not be limited to the ability to sit in a standard car seat, the ability to use the right foot for the operation of the gas pedal, the ability to use the right foot for the operation of the brake pedal, ability to use gearshift, ability to obtain and maintain a valid Florida driver's license (minimum Class E).

- Ability to report to work in times of an emergency disaster as declared by local, state, or federal officials or agencies.
- Ability to work in an on-call status as needed.
- Ability to perform all functions of the job classification without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
- Certification or licensure in a relevant trade as a plumber, HVAC, electrician, or contractor preferred.
- A valid Florida Driver's License with a satisfactory driving history is required.
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university is required with a bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in facilities maintenance, construction, or as an independent contractor with an emphasis on project management.
- Minimum three (3) years of work experience as a supervisor or manager directly responsible for the direction and evaluation of subordinates.
- Relevant work experience above the minimum requirements may be substituted toward the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
- Must be able to lift, push, carry, or pull a minimum of 50 pounds independently.
- The position requires working conditions in high and low temperatures, confined spaces, inclement weather, and loud environments.
- Must be able to meet agency vehicle driving requirements.
- The position has an increased risk of occupational exposure to hazardous and infectious materials. The nature of the position may require availability during off hours and times of emergencies or natural disasters.
