Position Overview
The BIM/CAD Technician will play a critical role in supporting field operations by creating, modifying, and preparing CAD and BIM models for construction layout. The primary focus will be on field layout support, but we also seek a candidate with the ability or interest in growing into BIM drafting and clash detection resolution. This position offers an opportunity to expand skills in building coordination and integrate cutting-edge construction technology into our projects.
Key Responsibilities
CAD & BIM Drafting: Create, edit, and manipulate 2D and 3D CAD files for construction layout, site preparation, and coordination.
Surface Model Preparation: Develop and refine surface models for GPS-guided equipment.
Data Conversion & Integration: Convert design files (DWG, DXF, LandXML, PDF, RVT, etc.) for field equipment compatibility.
Field Support: Work with field crews to troubleshoot and optimize digital layouts using robotic total stations and GPS systems.
Quality Control: Validate model accuracy against contract drawings, survey data, and project specifications.
Coordination: Integrate BIM/CAD models with construction schedules, clash detection, and site logistics.
Technology Optimization: Stay updated on new BIM/CAD technologies to enhance workflow and accuracy.
Qualifications & Experience
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Trimble Business Center, or similar CAD/BIM software.
Experience with construction layout technology (Topcon, Trimble, or Leica systems).
Familiarity with coordinate systems, georeferencing, and digital terrain models.
Understanding of site grading, earthwork modeling, and construction drawings.
Ability to troubleshoot and support field personnel with digital layout challenges.
Strong organizational and communication skills for coordinating across multiple projects.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.
Experience in commercial construction, civil site development, or infrastructure projects.
Knowledge of GIS, point cloud processing, and drone-based photogrammetry is a plus.
Interest in construction technology and BIM, with a desire to expand knowledge in clash detection and building coordination.
