Position Summary

DRS Network & Imaging Systems in Cypress, CA is part of the Electro-Optical and Infrared Systems Group of Leonardo DRS and has over 30 years of experience in designing and developing electro-optical / infrared systems for surveillance and targeting applications. We are seeking a Payload Architect to join the company in the development of strategic space and weather systems.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan, conduct and direct research and development projects where the complexity of the technical problems requires advanced knowledge and scientific specialization
• Conduct research to make fundamental improvements to product performance or to the invention of new product concepts
• Design, conduct, and analyze experiments to probe fundamental limits within area of expertise
• Support other departments with failure analysis for improvement of yield and reduction of cost
• Write proposals and reports and present technical papers to win new business and enhance the technical creditability of the Company
• Disseminate knowledge via patents, technical papers, technical memorandum and staff development
• Represent the company at industry and government briefings
• Provide technical expertise and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
• Interact with technical management, other professionals, technicians and support personnel to coordinate, recommend and confer regarding technical activities and progress
• Mentor and coach the work of others as assigned
• Actively participate in organizational strategy and future technology direction
• Widely recognized within both DRS and the scientific community as expert in the field of specialization as well as other related scientific disciplines
• Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
• Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings
• Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

Normal for an office environment. Work may requireoccasional weekend and / or evening work and local travel.

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.

The expected pay scale for this position is $159,298 / year - $247,310 / year. Should the level, location, or scope of the position change during the hiring process, the pay scale may be modified accordingly. When extending an offer of employment, Leonardo DRS considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position; any Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, the candidate's relevant work experience, education / training, certifications, and key skills; internal equity; and market and business considerations.
