Job Summary
The Thermoforming Manager oversees staffing, production schedules, training and safety. This position is responsible for coordinating and managing a team of Leads and Operators who set up and run various types of vacuum thermoforming machines, to maintain quality and on-time delivery. This is a working management role that requires a hands-on approach to be successful. Responsibilities include but are not limited to those described herein.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily production and team member schedules to maximize efficiency.
- Manage daily inventory worksheets, software programs and other tools.
- Work to determine and correct root cause of related downtime and quality issues.
- Communicate production scheduling and requirements with other departments.
- Coordinate continuous training to ensure team member confidence and reliability.
- Manage material usage, defective material, and scrap recording.
- Assist the Plant 2 Manager with managing material usage, defective material, and scrap recording.
- Manage tool inspection, perform minor tool repairs, and coordinate major tool repairs.
- Participate in weekly management and tooling meetings to review newly engineered parts, future orders, and in-process jobs.
- Approve employee time off and conduct disciplinary action.
- Conduct employee evaluations; responsible for administering completed evaluations.
- Facilitate department meetings on a monthly basis and as needed to communicate current and future expectations.
- Develop a visual management system to help operators improve efficiencies, set-up times, downtime, remakes, etc.
- Monitor upkeep of equipment and coordinate general maintenance of equipment and work area.
- Implement changes to improve production and efficiency.
- Responsible for meeting departmental and ISO-related objectives.
- Operate forklift, band saw, and various hand tools.
- Monitor and coordinate tooling changes and enhancements.
- Manage forming process studies to ensure quality, efficiency and accurate recordkeeping practices.
- Responsible for 5s initiatives for the department.
- Ensure a neat, organized, and safe work environment is maintained according to guidelines and standards.
Qualifications
- Prior experience working in vacuum thermoforming of plastic parts.
- At least 5 years supervision or management experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and mechanical skills.
- Ability to apply shop mathematics: addition/subtraction, multiplication/division, fractions, and decimals.
- Experience using Microsoft Office and manufacturing software.
