Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting and Payroll Specialist to join our finance team at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Detroit - Dearborn. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, coupled with hands-on experience in payroll processing specifically within the hotel industry. This role is essential in supporting our financial operations and providing insights that drive business decisions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure proper posting of all revenues and statistic information
- Follow up on discrepancies of reports
- Assist with month end closing
- Perform daily reconciliation of cash transactions
- Process and record cash receipts and disbursements
- Prepare bank deposits and reconcile bank statements
- Maintain accurate records of cash transactions and prepare reports as needed
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and reports
- Provide support to the accounting team as needed
- Perform special projects and assist with other duties as assigned
- Assist sales in establishing customer credit through Hotel policies and procedures, including but not limited to the application process, reference checks, credit limits, direct bill listing, deposit requirements, and other credit-related activities.
- Maintain an efficient collection process, which includes an organized filing and tracing system, the distribution of demand letters, the monitoring of returned checks and chargebacks, the performance of collection calls, and the preparation of bad debt write-offs.
- Notify your supervisor of any unusual events or deviations from policies or procedures.
- Increase productivity, identify problem areas, and assist in the discovery and implementation of solutions.
- Deliver accurate and timely invoices, statements, and schedules to customers.
- Ensure that all vendors or guests are satisfied.
- Respond to customer inquiries effectively and promptly. All issues and/or disputes must be communicated to the operating departments and the supervisor
- Collecting timesheet data and payroll information.
- Entering data into payroll and administrative databases and software programs.
- Calculating wages, benefits, tax deductions, commissions, etc.
- Preparing and processing paychecks and cash deposits.
- Maintaining accurate records of payroll documentation and transactions.
- Preparing and distributing income statements.
- Resolving payroll discrepancies.
- Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
Education/Experience
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college in accounting or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of one year experience in payroll processing. Hotel experience preferred, bonus if it’s Hilton experience.
- Previous experience with ADP, Sage, Oracle OnQ PMS, and/or Paychex is beneficial.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
