Junior Camp Counselor
We are seeking an enthusiastic, responsible, and hardworking Junior Summer Camp Counselor to join our team for the upcoming summer camp season. As a Junior Counselor, you will work closely with senior counselors and camp staff to provide a safe, fun, and educational environment for children ages [age range]. You will assist in leading activities, supporting campers’ needs, and ensuring all safety protocols are followed. This position is a great opportunity to gain experience in leadership, child development, and teamwork in an outdoor setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist Senior Counselors in organizing and leading daily camp activities (e.g., arts and crafts, sports, swimming, nature hikes, games, etc.)
- Supervise campers during activities, meals, and free time to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive atmosphere for all campers.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to campers, helping them develop new skills, build confidence, and create lasting friendships.
- Assist with setting up and cleaning up before and after activities.
- Help enforce camp rules and regulations to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
- Participate in camp-wide events, themed days, and special activities.
- Communicate with Senior Counselors and camp management to address any camper concerns or needs.
- Model appropriate behavior and serve as a positive role model for campers.
Qualifications:
- Age 16 or older.
- Upon hire, complete American Heart Association CPR and First Aid certification course. (This will be provided during training week)
- Previous experience working with children in a camp or volunteer setting is a plus but not required.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with children and fellow staff in a positive and effective manner.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Responsible, reliable, and committed to creating a safe and enjoyable camp experience for all participants.
- A passion for working with children and a love for the outdoors.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to participate in outdoor activities (e.g., hiking, swimming, sports) in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 25 lbs.
Schedule - Basic M-F Hours variable based on activity schedule - up to 8 hrs day
Job Types: Part-time, Temporary
Pay: $12.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
