ABOUT THE POSITION: The Assistant/Associate Director of International Students & Scholars will work with Assistant/Associate Dean/Director in all efforts in coordinating and providing the orientation & ongoing advising of international students. This position impacts many parts of campus. The Assistant/Associate Director will collaborate with a broad variety of campus partners, including Campus Living, Student Health & Wellness, the Student Support Network, the Advising Center, the Career Center, the Registrar, Admissions & Financial aid, Academic English Studies, Overseas & Off Campus Programs, as well as stakeholders at the graduate and law schools to provide academic and personal advising, assistance with housing and employment, compliance with student & exchange visitor visa regulations, and opportunities for community involvement. The Assistant/Associate Director will partner with the Director of Global Recruitment to recruit and admit international students. The Assistant/Associate Director will also substitute for the Associate Dean & Director as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Advise international students on academic, immigration, intercultural and personal issues. Provide individual advising, group advising, and follow-up on Student Support Network reports. Independently serve as staff adviser to International Students of Lewis & Clark (ISLC) student group. Evaluate international student applications for admission, with the Director of Global Recruitment Plan and execute ISS yield communication strategy for international students & TCKs Limited travel to international schools and admissions fairs to represent may be included Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) for F-1 visas and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for J-1 visas Issue I-20 & DS-2019 forms for student visas. Assist students with immigration regulation compliance Oversee practical training/employment authorization for graduating international students. Manage confidential financial records and immigration data that support student & exchange visitor eligibility Coordinate signature events including International Student/TCK Orientation, Annual International Fair, President's Reception for International Students, and Annual Davis Scholars event. Duties may include, but are not limited to, event logistics, liaising with various departments that support the event, advising students how to plan and provide logistical support, and delivering content as a speaker. Lead workshops for international students on financial aid & overseas programs, post-graduation career planning, and OPT employment authorization Assist the Director with the administrative responsibilities of the office, international orientation, ongoing programs, projects, and student support services as assigned. Independently facilitate the annual Mary Dimond Scholarship selection process. Represent ISS on campus-wide committees such as the Student Support Network, the Senior Experience, or the Sustainability Council. Independently manage the international transportation arrangements for our Davis Scholar population (approximately 80 students per year) Substitute for the director when necessary. Eligibility to Work In order to comply with US Homeland Security Department regulations, all employees must complete an I-9 form in Workday prior to or no later than the first day of work and bring originals (no photocopies) of their supporting documentation to Human Resources no later than the 3rd business day of employment. Failure to have a completed I-9 form on file with the College will result in immediate termination of employment.
