SUMMARY - Under supervision of Maintenance Director, Maintenance 1 is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and improvement of School District properties as assigned. Maintenance 1 also assists in the areas of procurement and disbursement of supplies and supervision of assigned personnel.
To Qualify as Maintenance II: Required to have a minimum of one year Maintenance 1 experience within the district or three years experience in a similar large school district, university or equivalent facility as determined by Maintenance Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned
- Performs general building maintenance and repairs to include, but not limited to:
Minor Plumbing
Painting
Hardware Repairs
Preventative/Reactive Maintenance
Grounds Maintenance
- Under direction of Maintenance 2 and Director:
Major Plumbing
HVAC Systems
Electrical Systems
Carpentry
Roofing
- Is a secondary boiler operator for all District boilers, including regular monitoring of boiler operations; regular testing of boiler safety equipment; regular analysis of boiler water chemical levels; routine maintenance of all boilers each summer.
- Assists the Maintenance Director in examining school buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance and then reports those needs.
- Assists the Maintenance Director to strive to help promote safety, health, and comfort of students and employees of the district.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies, repair materials and parts, tools, and equipment.
- Maintains records and submits reports as required by the Maintenance Director.
- Assists Maintenance Director in training of custodial staff.
- Works cooperatively and effectively with the administration, staff, students and the public.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Must have a high school diploma or high school equivalency degree (HSED); one to three years related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Holds or is able to obtain a valid Montana Boiler Operator’s license within six (6) months of hire, as well as a Driver’s License.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the district.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: The work environment has increasingly become technology driven. Lewistown Public Schools expects staff to meet reasonable expectations in the use of computers and other technology, in and out of the workplace.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must maintain good composure in pressure situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Employees of the Lewistown Public Schools must submit to a fingerprint criminal background check. Any appointment will be contingent upon the results of the criminal background report received from the Department of Justice, which must be acceptable to the Board of Trustees, in its sole discretion.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
For those classified employees employed under a written contract for a specified term, nothing contained in this job description shall create a property right beyond the specified duration of the employment contract.
Salary : $21 - $23
