General Summary :
Under general supervision of the lead transition teacher, provides training, assistance, and emotional support to disabled students. Works with classroom teachers to assist students who have been identified as having disabilities under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) with the transition from school to community programs.
Essential Functions :
Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.
Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders.
Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
Assists in preparing students for entry into the workplace.
Attends IEP meetings as necessary.
Conducts simulation interviews for job placement.
Completes sequence of duties and job / task analyses as needed for various jobs.
Drives students to and from community job sites as needed.
Reports to work with students to assist in understanding job tasks.
Provides systematic instruction of the job sequence and tasks to students at the job site.
Maintains regular contact with the OCP (Occupational Credentials Program) teachers, self-contained teachers, employers and parents concerning students’ work performance as an employee.
Completes performance sheets for students placed in employment positions.
Supervises students in a variety of settings.
Works effectively with adults and students in a variety of work settings.
Assists with other activities as requested by the Lead Transition Teacher, OCP teachers, self-contained teachers and secondary coordinator of special services.
Oversees PAES (Practical Assessment Exploration System) lab in school as designated by principal and Lead Transition Teacher.
Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, technology tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, tools, and equipment.
Effectively uses personal technology devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Education / Work Experience :
At least two years of study (60 semester hours) at an accredited institution of higher education; or
An associate’s degree (or higher); or
A passing score (456 or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment.
Valid South Carolina driver’s license; bus and commercial driver’s license required
Knowledge / Skills :
Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district that pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and operations. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and to complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, students, and the general public.
Working Conditions :
Duties are performed in a classroom or work setting with no significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Physical demands are restricted to work requiring occasional lifting / moving of students or equipment up to one hundred fifty pounds. Local travel is required.

Supervisory responsibilities for students.
Evaluation :
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the school board’s policy on evaluation of support staff personnel.
