This position provides oversight and leadership within the Transmission Control Center to ensure the safe and effective monitoring, balancing, control, operation, and restoration of the LG&E/KU transmission system to ensure security and reliability. Responsibilities include coordinating construction projects and outages, equipment maintenance outages, maintaining system voltage and flows within appropriate limits, coordinating transmission and energy schedules, and performing all necessary Transmission Operator (TOP) and Balancing Authority (BA) functions as mandated by FERC, NERC and SERC reliability standards, operating policies and codes of conduct.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures safety of field resources and the safe operation of the LG&E/KU transmission system.
- Manages and directs operations to ensure the safe and efficient restoration of customers' electric service utilizing the Protect, Restore, and Repair philosophy.
- Provides leadership and direction for day-to-day operations in the Transmission Control Center.
- Coordinates Transmission outages with LG&E/KU departments (Transmission field personnel, Transmission Operations Engineering, Distribution Control Centers, Regulated Generation Dispatch, Major Accounts, etc.), as well as with the TVA Reliability Coordinator and neighboring utilities, if applicable.
- Participates in meetings involving capital projects (e.g. outage coordination meetings, outage planning, outage sequencing, etc.)
- Participates in meeting involving projects that impact the Balancing Authority (e.g. generators, BA tie tines, IBR, pseudo ties, dynamic schedules, etc.)
- Ensures accurate information in Transmission Outage Application (TOA).
- Develops and reviews line requests (switching) for capital and maintenance work.
- Supervises and coordinates outage requests for transmission and distribution line crews and substation crews.
- Works with Transmission Operations Engineers, the TVA RC and other impacted entities to develop mitigation plans (e.g. Operating Guides) associated with outages and energy conditions.
- Ensures appropriate computerized systems are utilized to their full potential and that operating procedures are consistently utilized.
- Maintains and produces various reports to ensure that Transmission Operations and the Balancing Authority are meeting its established metrics.
- Provides necessary information for outage investigations, event analyses, etc.
- Coordinates energy emergency plans within the Balancing Authority including up to load shed if necessary.
- Responsible for overseeing hourly schedules with all Load Serving Entities (LSEs) and Imbalances.
- Responsible for evaluation, and performance management of employees.
- Responsible for the training and development of new employees.
- Must perform duties of the Lead and Transmission Operations Desks as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned by upper management.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in engineering/electrical technology, mathematics, or related technical discipline
- 7 years of internal or external experience as Transmission Operator or Balancing Authority Operator.
- Must be recommended by immediate Supervisor.
- Requires fully proficient understanding of real time operations and processes of LG&E and KU Operations.
- Proficient in PC word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Must have NERC Reliability Coordinator (RC) certification. Required
