Position Overview
The Director of Construction is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all construction projects, managing construction office staff, and ensuring the successful delivery of commercial projects. This individual plays a pivotal role in maintaining project quality, schedule adherence, and budget compliance, while fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. Reporting directly to the Regional Vice President, the Director of Construction serves as a strategic partner in achieving organizational objectives
Core Responsibilities:
Leadership and Staff Management
- Provide leadership and guidance to construction staff, including Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Coordinators.
- Oversee hiring, training, and performance evaluations of construction team members.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement within the construction department.
- Ensure company values are being maintained and exemplified.
- Create and maintain staff development plans, identifying opportunities for professional growth.
- Work closely with Director of Field Operations for alignment on company and department goals,
Project Oversight
- Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Monitor project progress, addressing potential risks, and implementing corrective measures as needed. Ensure all process milestones are met and attend meetings as necessary.
- Review and approve project schedules, budgets, and plans prepared by Project Managers.
- Ensure all regulatory permits or approvals are in place.
- Conduct regular site visits to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Work in conjunction with Director of Field Operations for project and team alignment.
Strategic Planning
- Collaborate with executive leadership to align construction operations with the company's strategic goals.
- Develop and implement processes to improve operational efficiency and project delivery.
- Forecast staffing needs based on project pipelines and business development initiatives.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding construction operations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Address client concerns and ensure satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
Quality and Safety Assurance
- Enforce quality control programs to meet or exceed industry standards.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to all safety protocols and regulations.
- Work with Director of Field Operations to investigate and address any safety incidents or quality concerns.
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare regular reports for executive leadership on project status, financial performance, and departmental metrics.
- Ensure all project documentation is accurate, complete, and stored appropriately.
- Oversee work in progress meetings and reporting from the construction team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (preferred).
- 10 years of experience in commercial construction, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Advanced knowledge of construction processes, scheduling, and financial management.
- Proficiency in construction project management software.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Design-Build Certification and experience.
- LEED certification or experience with sustainable building practices.
- Proven track record of managing large-scale commercial construction projects

Reporting
Reports to the Regional Vice President. Bi-weekly or monthly meetings will be held to update leaders on project progress, upcoming project timelines, and address any business issues requiring discussion.
Evaluation
Annual review to be with the Regional Vice President to review employee's performance over the past year. Review will take place on or about June / July of each year. Subjects to be reviewed and discussed will include but not be limited to the past projects success and failures should there be any. Also, input from sub-contractors that have worked with the employee as well as other individuals within the company will be considered. Review of history of attitude, and track record of representing the company in a positive manner. Evidence of how you demonstrate company's values. Quarterly check-ins will also occur for regular alignment
