Responsibilities
The Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA, OTA) provides occupational therapy to patients in their homes, aiming to restore them to their fullest physical ability. This role involves performing duties in accordance with established policies and procedures, as well as the plan of care set by the supervising OT.
- Follow state-specific laws governing occupational therapy in home care and adhere to the treatment plan defined by the supervising OT
- Instruct and aid patients in evidence-based treatment within the scope of the occupational therapy assistant and according to state laws
- Observe, record, and report patient responses to treatment and changes in condition to the supervising OT, nurse supervisor, and/or physician
- Coordinate care with other healthcare team members as necessary
- Instruct patients, families, caregivers, and other health professionals in areas of therapy within the scope of the occupational therapy assistant
Education and Experience
License Requirements
- Current OTA licensure in the state
- Current CPR certification
- Current driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to a dependable vehicle or public transportation
