Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accounting Manager to join our dynamic team in the manufacturing sector. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the accounting functions and ensuring that financial processes are efficient, accurate, and compliant with all applicable regulations and industry standards. This role requires a deep understanding of manufacturing accounting, cost accounting principles, inventory management, and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Analyze financial data and provide insightful reports to senior management, highlighting key trends, variances, and operational performance.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of month-end and year-end close processes.
Cost Accounting:
- Oversee cost accounting functions, including product costing, margin analysis, and inventory valuation.
- Analyze manufacturing costs and perform cost variance analysis to identify areas for cost control and process improvements.
- Monitor and ensure accurate allocation of overhead costs to ensure accurate product pricing.
- Inventory Management:
- Supervise the inventory accounting process, including regular reconciliations and adjustments to ensure accuracy.
- Ensure that inventory is accurately valued and that periodic physical inventory counts align with financial records.
- Manage and optimize inventory processes to prevent excess stock, stockouts, and shrinkage.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Lead the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts, ensuring alignment with the company’s goals.
- Provide ongoing analysis of budget versus actual results and proactively recommend corrective actions.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial data integrity.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal tax regulations, including preparation of tax filings and audits.
- Oversee audits and liaise with external auditors during the year-end audit process.
Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance and support in day-to-day operations.
- Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs, and foster a collaborative team environment.
Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes, internal controls, and financial systems to enhance operational efficiency.
- Work closely with other departments (e.g., Operations, Purchasing, Sales) to improve financial data accuracy and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
- Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory management, and financial analysis in the manufacturing sector.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., ERP systems like SAP, Oracle, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and tax regulations.
- Experience with month-end and year-end closing processes and audits.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles and their impact on accounting processes.
- Familiarity with manufacturing operations, production planning, and supply chain management.
- Advanced degree in accounting or business (e.g., MBA).
