Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our client, a manufacturing company located in the Chicago area. As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing various accounting functions, managing financial operations, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. This position reports directly to the Controller.
Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide insights to management.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
2. General Ledger Management:
- Oversee the maintenance and reconciliation of the general ledger.
- Review and approve journal entries, including complex transactions and adjustments.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations.
3. Cost Accounting:
- Coordinate and oversee the cost accounting function, ensuring accurate product costing and inventory valuation.
- Analyze manufacturing variances and investigate any discrepancies.
- Provide cost analysis and support for pricing decisions and profitability analysis.
4. Fixed Assets and Depreciation:
- Manage fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, and disposal.
- Conduct periodic fixed asset reconciliations and physical asset verification.
- Ensure proper recording and tracking of fixed assets in accordance with company policies and regulations.
5. Inventory Management:
- Oversee inventory control processes and procedures.
- Collaborate with operations and supply chain teams to ensure accurate inventory valuation and adequate inventory levels.
- Perform periodic inventory reconciliations and analysis.
6. Financial Compliance and Audit Support:
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the coordination of internal and external audits.
- Provide necessary documentation and support during audit activities.
7. Financial Systems and Process Improvement:
- Review and enhance financial systems and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Identify opportunities for automation and streamline accounting workflows.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
8. Team Leadership and Training:
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support.
- Conduct performance evaluations and assist in professional development.
- Stay updated on accounting standards and best practices, and train team members as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification is highly preferred.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards.
- Proficient in using ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with cost accounting and inventory management in a manufacturing environment.
- Solid understanding of fixed asset accounting and depreciation methods.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial data management.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
