Assistant Toddler/2’s Teacher
Background: Libertas is a public charter school serving the Frayser neighborhood in Memphis. Our mission is to be a school for human flourishing: cultivating minds, hands, and hearts for lives of wonder, work, and love. We offer a rich, rigorous, and personalized liberal arts education through the method of Dr. Maria Montessori, with an attachment village of wraparound family support. We currently serve birth through 5th grade; run an infant/toddler preschool program; operate a nationally accredited, state-licensed teacher training program; and are preparing to launch a middle school in 2024. Role Summary: Full-time preschool toddler teacher 1 ½ through 3) in a school-based Montessori program that fosters wonder, work, and love. (Our child care is called the “Nido” community, which in Italian means “nest”.)
Role Information:
- The 24/25 school year begins July 22, 2024: Some availability is required before this date for training, orientation, and classroom preparation); Regular hours are 7:15 am to 4:45 pm Monday-Thursday and 7:15 am - 3:45 pm Friday. (Preschool hours are slightly longer than regular hours to allow staff members time to drop off and pick up their children.)
- 4 to 5 weeks of summer programming required
- Hourly wage is $15 per hour based on qualifications (Overtime rates applicable).
- Reports to Program Manager and Montessori Coaches
Responsibilities Include:
- Supervision: Oversee the safety and well-being of children in your care.
- Activities: Assist with age-appropriate, child-centered activities, and lessons, informed by the Montessori method (training provided), potty training as appropriate
- Sanitation & Safety: Implement an effective cleaning plan to ensure all of the classroom areas are sanitary and safe. When necessary, administer first-aid or CPR to children (training provided if needed).
- Record-Keeping & Communication:Record daily activities and share photos with parents of each child using the Brightwheel app
- Nutrition: Oversea meals to ensure children are fed safely and on schedule.
- Classroom: Prepare and help manage the classroom on an ongoing basis.
- Training: Regularly attend mandatory Montessori training with intermittent coaching.
Qualifications and traits
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Knowledge, experience, and confidence in a preschool setting required.
- 1 years of experience.
- Classroom management skills preferred
- Experience potty training toddlers preferred.
- High energy and physical mobility required.
- Warm, positive, and patient demeanor.
- Effective communication, including listening, writing, and speaking.
- Ability to multi-task while staying organized and attentive to detail.
- Flexible, takes initiative, and has a strong sense of personal ownership of responsibilities.
- Work collaboratively with a growth mindset. Give and receive constructive feedback.
- Model of character.
- Experience with or desire to learn the Montessori method of infant and toddler care.
