Job Summary
The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is currently seeking skilled applicants for the full-time position of Parks Maintenance Technician within the Recreation Department. The ideal candidate will be dependable and prioritize safety. This position is responsible for performing maintenance and repair to county-operated parks sports fields and facilities.
Major Job Duties
- Performs maintenance and repair of county-operated parks, sports fields, and related recreational facilities.
- Mows, weed eats, and edges fields and lawns; trims trees and bushes; picks up trash and debris; applies fertilizer and herbicide as needed.
- Performs semi-skilled and routine maintenance of department buildings and facilities to include plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work.
- Operates a variety of maintenance equipment such as mowers, tractors, front and loader, utility vehicles, hand tools, and power tools.
- Responsible for the seasonal maintenance and preparation work to sports fields.
- Installs and maintains walking trails and playground equipment as needed.
- Assists with maintenance, repair, plumbing, and preparation work to county-operated swimming pools.
- Performs housekeeping duties at facilities as needed.
- Assists in the preparation of weekend rental facilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Department and safety rules and regulations.
- Operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment.
- Basic mechanical, plumbing, and carpentry methods and practices.
- Units of measurement/simple math skills.
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
- Oral and written communication.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- Ability to read field diagrams
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
- Less than one year of related experience is required.
- Must possess a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements
- Typically performed while typically sitting; standing; walking; bending; crouching; or stooping.
- Frequently lifts light and heavy objects.
- Climbs ladders; uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity; distinguishes between shades of color; and utilizes sense of smell.
- Typically performed in an office; stockroom; a very noisy place; or outdoors occasionally in cold or inclement weather.
- Exposure to dust; dirt; grease; machinery with moving parts; or irritating chemicals.
- Requires the use of protective devices such as masks; goggles; and gloves.
Salary & Benefits
This is a full-time position with a starting annual compensation of $36,379.20 (Pay Grade 10A). Work hours are typically Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM with occasional Saturday hours.
