High School Principal Job Description
Reports to the Superintendent of Schools
The High School (HS) Principal must be a dynamic, well organized administrator with excellent communication skills as well as strong time management skills. Must have a strong work ethic with a hands on approach. Must be able to multitask. Works well with administrators and teachers in a collaborative setting by providing the leadership to move the Building and District forward.
High School Principal
- Will oversee the educational program, which includes instruction, staff development, curriculum coordination and articulation. Responsible for managing budgets, potential grants and all resources that will benefit the High School.
- Focus on increasing the graduation rate ensuring that all students are college and career ready. Utilizes that understanding to further enhance student curricular needs and promote student centered interactive learning.
- Thoroughly understands the use of technology as it pertains to instruction in the classroom. Strengthens and grows the CTE program, work-based learning partnerships.
- Responsible for all reports, records, and other paperwork as required by the District and State Education Department.
- Experience with institutional change, staff leadership, curriculum development, staff evaluations and professional development.
- The HS Principal will work with the Assistant Superintendent and Building Teacher Leaders to promote horizontal and vertical articulation and ensure high quality implementation of school standards, aligned curriculum and assessment system.
- Establishes necessary staff development to support the teachers.
- Responsible to collect, organize, analyze and synthesize building data on student achievement and translate conclusions into school and teacher level interventions.
- Frequently visit classrooms to understand and evaluate school needs.
- Assists with the recruitment, interviewing, screening and recommendation of candidates for building openings.
- The principal will identify and assign mentors to new staff and implement an orientation and induction program.
- Orchestrates Building Leadership Teams and Building Plans such as a Priority Plan or SCEP (if applicable).
- Works with the Assistant Superintendent for appropriate student teacher placement with building teachers.
- Building Principal maintains open communication with their bargaining units, Director of Facilities and Building Custodian.
- Thoroughly understands the use of technology as it pertains to instruction in the classroom.
- Performs all other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent and or the Board of Education.
- Member of District Professional Development meeting and Safety meetings.
- Maximize staff and faculty utilization
- Expected to oversee building academic programs and schedule in accordance with NYSED Requirements.
- Attends Extra Curricular and evening activities.
All applicants must hold a NYS SBL Certification. Minimum of five years of successful teaching and experience in a school leadership position.
Terms of employment: 12 months, terms to be negotiated.
