Grant Writer
Liberty House is seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and talented professional to write grants to support its mission. The Grant Writer is responsible for all phases of the grant development, evaluation, and compliance, including research, coordination of grant applications, managing the grant reporting process and successfully closing out grant projects with final budget and reporting. The Grant Writer will actively research and pursue
prospective government and non-government funding sources. This position is supervised by the Development and Community Engagement Director.
As a member of the Community Engagement Team, this position will be a face of the organization in the public, striving to raise awareness of and participation in Liberty House’s mission. Work-life includes a variety of experiences, including repetitive data entry, content creation, networking, face-to-face relationship building, and other miscellaneous tasks. This position will be supervised by the Director of Development & Community Engagement and is responsible for working successfully with the team, the Chief Executive Officer, and the Board of Directors to promote relationship building and successful fundraising.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Position:
Grant Writing and Coordination
· Apply robust effort to support the mission of Liberty House through developing, securing and reporting on grant funding.
· Study and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs and financial needs of Liberty House.
· Research grant opportunities from government and non-government agencies.
· Participate in developing a strategy for pursuing and prioritizing grants.
· Draft, review, finalize and submit grant proposals and supporting documents based on the funding requirements of the organization.
· Continue working with existing, well-established grantors to ensure future funding
· Conduct energetic research to develop a wide range of new grantors to pursue.
· Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.
· Organize grants committee with the CEO, Deputy CEO, Community Engagement Team Leader, CFO, and Executive Coordinator to plan and strategize grants and grantor site-visits.
· Develop and maintain positive relationships with funding providers and other stakeholders, especially through responsive and personal gratitude practices
· Maintain records and submit reports related to grant opportunities. Keep supervisor fully informed of research, grant-making process, and related information.
Other Community Engagement Team Support
· Receive cross-training with other team members in areas such as marketing, donor engagement, event coordination, and database management to promote collaboration and professional development
· Assist other team members during high-volume seasons with various tasks, such as donation processing and data entry, gratitude phone call campaigns, networking, and garden maintenance
· Represent Liberty House in the community and make personal relationships with our constituents
· Conduct tours of our campus and give information presentations at community gatherings
· Attend and assist with Liberty House fundraising and community engagement events as needed
Basic Functions and Responsibilities as a Liberty House Team Member:
· Pass the following checks: criminal background, sex offender registry, and child abuse registry.
· Maintain required confidentiality in compliance with Liberty House policies, HIPAA, and State of Oregon multidisciplinary child abuse assessment team statutory requirements.
· Attend Liberty House staff meetings, annual retreats, and other meetings as directed.
· Communicate professionally, respectfully, and supportively with internal team members, external partners, and board members.
· Promote a positive working environment by adhering to the Liberty House Code of Conduct.
· Take personal responsibility for effective communication and respectful conflict management.
· Conduct the business of Liberty House so as to maintain and increase its goodwill and reputation in the community, consistent with professional and ethical standards of behavior.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Creative Writing or a related area. Master’s Degree is preferred.
· At least two years’ grant writing experience
Other Qualifications:
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to study and understand programs and funding requirements of Liberty House.
· Strong research skills and knowledge of information sources.
· Ability to handle confidential matters with utmost integrity.
· Working knowledge of computers.
